LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan on Monday said the manner in which police resorted to teargas shelling and throwing stones at his convoy he feared that the namaloom afraad present at the Judicial Complex would have killed him.

Addressing media through a live speech, he asked the chief justice of Pakistan to look into the matter carefully. “I passed through all the obstacles to appear before the court on Saturday, because I am a law abiding citizen. However, seeing election results, their aim is to now kill me,” he said.

Imran Khan said whenever he came out of the house, his life was under threat and more cases were filed against him. He asked the chief justice to see all the cases against him and explain that where he went wrong that even terrorism charges were levelled against him.

The former prime minister asked the CJP if there was any surety for his security. “Tell me who was there to protect me when I entered the Judicial Complex. The three to four guards protecting me would have easily been pushed away,” he said.

The PTI chief said when he left Saturday morning he said Bushra Bibi Khuda Hafiz (good bye). Because he did not want them to say that Imran Khan feared appearing before the court, he maintained.

“But the treatment they served to me was unprecedented as when I left to appear before the court and as I moved forward vehicles of my convoy were cut short by placing obstacles between us. Out of the blue, police started firing teargas shells on unarmed citizens in a bid to instigate them

“I saw when police were firing on PTI convoy by Allah’s grace the teargas shells returned to police with heavy wind,” he said.

He said he stood at the Judicial Complex gate for 40 minutes as police were throwing stones and shells on them.

“When I entered the gate, I saw the court premises filled with police and rangers even namaloom afraad were accompanying them. I saw them suddenly attacking PTI workers without any reason.

“My colleague came and asked me to get out of the premises because it was a trap and they wanted to kill me,” he said adding that that’s when he went back.

Imran Khan said the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) was creating polarisation in the society. He said they were trying to pitch the PTI and armed forces against each other.
