ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) leader Advocate Babar Awan on Sunday said imposition of Section 144 in Lahore was illegal as restriction on the PTI rally was contempt of two courts, Bol News reported.

Addressing media in Islamabad, he said Section 144 was not imposed during the Pakistan Super League matches in Rawalpindi. He said the routes of the PSL and rally were separate. A petition had been filed in the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) against Section 144, he added.

Babar Awan requested the ECP to immediately issue an order. He said the ECP was assured that the rally would end by 5:30 pm. He said they had shut down the entire city for fear of Imran Khan. He said chemical was used on PTI workers.

The senior lawyer also said that the same procedure was adopted in murder of Arshad Sharif and Zille Shah.

Meanwhile, PTI on Sunday filed a plea with the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) against imposition of Section 144 in Punjab, Bol News reported.
