LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) leader Chaudhry Fawad Hussain on Tuesday said Bol News Islamabad Bureau Chief Siddique Jan and Barrister Hassaan Niazi were among 500 people who were arrested in the last two days, Bol News reported.

Talking to ‘Dunya Bol Hai’, Fawad Chaudhry said the democracy was breathing its last, so let’s see if we could save it. “Whoever stands by the truth is detained. Last night, Siddique Jan was on a phone call with me, when he was abducted,” he said.

He said Siddique Jan did court reporting with all his heart. Even constitution, journalism and politics were not protected in the country, he said adding that speaking here was a big crime. He asked what crime Bol TV Co-Chairman Shoaib Shaikh committed that he was punished. “What did Bol do?” he queried.

On March 20, in another act of vengeance against the media channel, BOL News Islamabad Bureau Chief Siddique Jan had been abducted in Islamabad.

According to reports, Siddique Jan was taken away by men in plain clothes from outside the BOL News Office in Islamabad. CCTV footage showed over 25-30 men come outside and took Siddique Jan away in a car.

Ramna Police Station said Siqqique Jan had not been taken into custody by them. Siddique Jan had already raised concerns that he might be arrested by law enforcement agencies.

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Cybercrime recently served a notice to Siddique Jan and accused him of inciting people on social media. He had challenged the summon in the Islamabad High Court.
