PTI leader Asad Qaiser released from Mardan Central Jail
MARDAN: Former National Assembly Speaker and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Asad Qaiser has been released from Mardan Central Jail.
The Deputy Commissioner of Swabi withdrew the 3 MPO (Maintenance of Public Order) order, following the directives of the Peshawar High Court, leading to Qaiser’s release.
Despite having obtained bail in the May 9 violence case, Asad Qaiser had been held under 3MPO since November 24. On December 9, he was re-arrested by Swabi police shortly after securing bail from the district and sessions court in Mardan.
Earlier, the district and sessions court in Mardan had granted him bail in the May 9 case, requiring surety bonds of Rs90,000. However, his freedom was short-lived as he was rearrested under the Maintenance of Public Order provision.
Asad Qaiser, facing corruption allegations related to the procurement of equipment for Gajju Khan Medical College in Swabi, was initially arrested on November 3 from Bani Gala, Islamabad. The Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) filed charges against Qaiser for his alleged involvement in corruption regarding the purchase of medical equipment for Gajju Khan Medical College.
