Murree: Tourists flock to ‘Malka-a-Kohsar’ as snowfall expected

Tourists from Punjab and other areas are looking forward to visiting Murree, the country’s most popular hill station, to enjoy the expected snowfall starting on Sunday.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecasted a drop in temperature and snowfall in various places due to changing weather conditions.

Murree and Galyat regions are also preparing for rainfall, while hilly areas are getting ready for snowfall.

A new western wave is expected to impact Murree and other regions starting from Sunday.

On Saturday, Murree’s temperature ranged from -1 to 8 degrees Celsius.

Known as Malka-e-Kohsar, Murree offers stunning views of the Kashmir hills and twin cities. Thousands of tourists visit the hill station on weekends to enjoy holidays at different spots.

The PDMA (Provincial Disaster Management Authority) has issued a forecast for Murree and nearby areas regarding the anticipated snowfall. PDMA spokesperson mentioned that authorities are actively working to prevent any incidents during the snowfall and the expected surge in tourist numbers.

Meanwhile, many travelers, mostly with families, have been seen arriving from different districts of Central Punjab and northern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the valleys of Kalam, Madyan, Bahrain, and Malam Jabba in Upper Swat.

Weather Update

Met Office said Kashmir, KP, and parts of northwest hilly regions are likely to get rainfall, accompanied by snow.

People in Azad Kashmir, Gilgit Baltistan, and KP will experience rain and snowfall as a westerly wave is approaching today and may affect the upper parts of the country.

In Punjab, fog will continue to blanket the plains, with a possibility of rainfall in Islamabad and its surroundings.

Met Office said coastal areas of Makran have been cautioned about potential rainfall, and heavy fog is predicted in various cities, including Bahawalpur, Sahiwal, Okara, Kasur, Lahore, Sialkot, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, Jhang, and more.

It said KP regions – Kohat, and Bannu – will experiecne rain, while Charsadda, Mardan, Nowshera, Swabi, Peshawar, could experience slight showers.
