ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Monday took the decision to withhold the results of four National Assembly (NA) and two provincial assembly seats from Punjab.
Specifically, the results from NA-52, NA-53, NA-56, NA-57, PP-17, and PP-6 were withheld by the ECP due to challenges raised by the losing candidates.
Tariq Aziz Bhatti, Ajmal Sabir, Shehryar Riaz, and Sumaiya Tahir challenged the results of NA-52, NA-53, NA-56, and NA-57 respectively.
Additionally, Zain Zia Abbasi and Rashid Hafeez challenged the outcome of PP-6. All concerned candidates have submitted FORM 45 to the Election Commission of Pakistan.
The ECP has called upon the relevant returning officers to appear before them on February 15 to address these challenges.
In another development earlier that day, the ECP also suspended the results of NA-71 Sialkot following a petition filed by an independent candidate supported by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Rehana Dar.
The ECP issued a notice to the returning officer regarding Rehana Dar’s petition and has summoned their response. Consequently, the ECP postponed the hearing on the victory of Khawaja Asif, the winning candidate, until February 14.
