IHC issues arrest warrant for DC Islamabad
ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) issued arrest warrants for Islamabad Deputy Commissioner Irfan Nawaz Memon in a contempt case on Tuesday.
The court instructed the Inspector Generals of Police (IGPs) from all four provinces and Islamabad to apprehend the deputy commissioner and present him before the court regarding the case.
During the hearing, Justice Babar Sattar charged Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Operations Jamil Zafar, Superintendent (SP) Farooq Buttar, and Station House Officer (SHO) Nasir Manzoor with contempt.
Previously, the IHC had suspended the arrest warrants of PTI leader Shehryar Afridi under the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) and ordered his immediate release. Afridi was initially arrested on May 16 from his residence in Islamabad under Section 3 of the MPO Ordinance, 1960, and then rearrested on May 30 under the same section shortly after being released from prison.
In Afridi’s case, the court also charged Deputy Commissioner Irfan Nawaz Memon and three others with contempt. Memon and SSP Zafar pleaded not guilty to the charges and offered unconditional apologies to the court. Additionally, SP Farooq Buttar and SHO Naseer Manzoor were indicted with contempt, although both denied the accusations.
