ISLAMABAD: Maulana Fazlur Rehman, the Chief of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F), said on Thursday that his party would abstain from participating in the election processes for key positions in the National Assembly, including the speaker, deputy speaker, prime minister, and president.

Following the inaugural session of the NA, Maulana Fazlur Rehman made it clear to the media that the JUI-F would sit on the opposition benches in this parliamentary term.

He emphasized that they would not take part in the selection of the National Assembly speaker, deputy speaker, and prime minister. Prior to the opening session of the National Assembly, a delegation comprising members of PML-N, PPP, and other allied parties held discussions with Maulana Fazlur Rehman.

Among the attendees were prominent figures such as Ayaz Sadiq, Saad Rafique, and Ahsan Iqbal from PML-N, as well as Syed Khursheed Shah, Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani, Syed Naveed Qamar from PPP, Abdul Aleem Khan of the Istehkam-e-Paksitan Party (IPP), and Khalid Magsi of Balochistan Awami Party (BAP). Ayaz Sadiq, nominated for the National Assembly speaker position, reported a positive meeting with Maulana Fazlur Rehman, stating that they had requested his support.

However, Maulana Fazalur Rehman expressed reservations and indicated intentions to address these concerns in the near future.
