LAHORE: Maryam Nawaz, the nominee for Punjab’s chief minister position from the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), has outlined her strategic vision for the province as she prepares to assume leadership for the next five years.

Speaking to the media following a parliamentary party meeting of the PML-N on Wednesday, Maryam expressed confidence in ushering in a new era for Punjab. She commended the PML-N for securing victory and obtaining a majority in the Punjab Assembly.

If elected, Maryam will make history as the first woman to hold the position of chief minister in Pakistan’s seven-decade history, overseeing a province with a population exceeding 127 million, constituting more than half of Pakistan’s populace.

Acknowledging the challenges ahead, Maryam thanked the people of Punjab for entrusting her party with a clear mandate. She emphasized the need for relentless service and teamwork to address pressing issues in healthcare, education, local governance, sewage, and clean water supply in rural areas.

Maryam highlighted her dedication to women’s empowerment, recognizing the significance of her nomination for Punjab’s first female chief minister, and expressed her commitment to serving all segments of society, including daughters, mothers, sisters, and women in reserved seats.

She promised to revamp healthcare services, introduce merit-based scholarships for students to study abroad, and undertake initiatives for employment generation and housing for the underprivileged.

In her vision for Punjab, Maryam emphasized the construction of one hundred thousand houses for the impoverished, the provision of interest-free loans to youth, and the facilitation of merit-based scholarships for young scholars to pursue higher education abroad.
