KARACHI: A number of areas in Karachi are experiencing power outages due to approximately 150 feeders of K-Electric (KE) malfunctioning after heavy rainfall in the city.

Affected regions include Baldia Town, Surjani Town, Gulistan-e-Johar, Korangi, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Gulshan-e-Maymar, Liaquatabad, North Nazimabad, and Nusrat Bhutto Colony. Additionally, areas such as Landhi, Gulshan-e-Hadid, Mauripur, Punjab Colony, and Manghopir are also facing electricity shortages.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department had forecasted moderate to heavy rainfall for several parts of Karachi on Friday, which subsequently occurred.

Statistics released by the Met Office indicated that the highest rainfall was recorded at PAF Base Faisal (14mm), followed by Keamari (13mm), Surjani Town (12.5 mm), Orangi Town (9.7mm), and DHA (9.5 mm). Other areas like Gadap Town received 7.9mm of rain, while PAF Base Masrur, Mauripur, and Quaidabad each received 7.5mm.

Additionally, Gulshan Hadid and Old Airport recorded 7mm, Jinnah Terminal 6.4mm, Korangi 6.3mm, Malir 6mm, and University Road 5.7mm of rainfall, as reported by the Met Office.
