The Supreme Court ordered the implementation and initiation of measures for the rehabilitation of the victims within two weeks in the Gujranala, Orangi Nala victims’ rehabilitation case.

Chief Secretary Sindh, Advocate General Sindh, Commissioner Karachi and others appeared in the Supreme Court Karachi Registry in the case of ensuring the implementation of rehabilitation of Gujarnala Orangi Nala victims.

The court inquired the parties regarding the progress made so far. The Advocate General Sindh said, “We have written a letter to the Pakistan Engineering Council. The first order of the court is that the plot of 80 yards and the check was to be provided.”

Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar said, “We want an official of the department to be the representative in this matter. We want to make sure that the allotment of the land and the amount do not get disputed later. Want to be a representative on behalf of victims.”

The court while talking to Faisal Siddiqui advocate said that he should become a representative, to which the lawyer replied, “No, I do not want to be a representative.”

The lawyer for the victims said that the petitioner in the case is the head of the civic organization. “We are sure that whatever the court will decide we agree. We say that the estimate made by Pakistan Engineering Council will be approved by us.”

While making a stand, the lawyer of the victims said, “Our proposal is to include the head of the civic organization in the consultation with the PEC.” To which Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar replied, “We will say that in the first stage, let the estimate of PEC come. If you have any objection, please refer to the court again.”

The victim’s lawyer replied that the matter is reaching completion due to the court. He was confident that matters will be resolved amicably.

The representatives of the victims of Gujarnala Liaquatabad also appeared in the court, the representatives of the victims said, “We were not included in the list of the victims.” On which the court asked the Advocate General Sindh for the reason for leaving them out of the list. The court ordered to include these people among the victims.

The court further asked the Advocate General, “Have you found any of these people in your information?”

Advocate General Sindh replied, “If they do not get the money, these people can contact the Commissioner’s Office. We will look into this matter, their names are included in the list of 6 thousand 932 people.”

The court ordered to finalize the matter. On which AG Sindh said that an estimation of 2 rooms, kitchen, bathroom, yard and roof have been made for the house. The 80 yard space has a similar construction.

The court remarked that not everything can be left to the PEC.

The Supreme Court Registry Karachi ordered the PEC to prepare an estimate of the construction cost within three weeks and after three weeks to start the implementation and rehabilitate the victims in another two weeks.

The court also ordered to submit the report in the next two months after the completion of both the phases.
