RAWALPINDI: An army captain and a soldier were martyred in an exchange of fire with terrorists during an operation in Peshawar’s Hassan Khel area, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said.

In a statement, ISPR reported that Captain Hussain Jahangir, 25, from Rahim Yar Khan district, and Havaldar Shafiq Ullah, 36, from Karak district, were martyred in the operation.

At least five terrorists were killed, and three were injured. A sanitization operation was conducted to eliminate any remaining terrorists in the area.

“Pakistan’s security forces are committed to eradicating terrorism, and the sacrifices of our brave soldiers strengthen our resolve,” the ISPR stated.

The operation occurred amidst a surge in terrorist activities across the country, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, since the outlawed militant group Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan ended its ceasefire with the government in November 2022.

Earlier, on April 9, security forces killed two terrorists in an intelligence-based operation in South Waziristan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The terrorists were actively involved in numerous attacks, and a significant cache of weapons and explosives was recovered from them, according to ISPR.
