ISLAMABAD: The visit of Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Federal Minister Amir Maqam to Kyrgyzstan has been unexpectedly postponed.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had instructed them to travel to Bishkek immediately to assess the situation following the violence against Pakistani students in the Kyrgyz capital and to oversee the measures for their repatriation.

Sources indicated that Dar and Maqam were set to depart from Lahore to Bishkek today, but the trip was suddenly canceled. Instead, they will hold a press conference with Federal Information Minister Ataullah Tarar later.

The officials were originally scheduled to meet with Pakistani students and relevant Kyrgyz authorities to discuss the security and healthcare provisions for the affected students.

In recent violent incidents in Kyrgyzstan, Pakistani students were specifically targeted, causing them to live in fear and hide.

Yesterday, a flight carrying 140 Pakistanis, including 30 students, arrived in Lahore from Bishkek, and another flight is expected to bring more Pakistani students today.
