Karachi is bracing for a significant rise in temperatures this week, with Chief Meteorologist Sardar Sarfaraz forecasting a heatwave that will push temperatures above 40°C from Wednesday to Friday.

This period will be characterized by warm and dry winds blowing from the northwest for most of the day, though evening sea breezes may provide some relief.

Temperatures are expected to drop slightly to around 35 to 37°C in the first week of June. However, the city will continue to experience hot and humid conditions throughout the next month.

Weather expert Owais Hyder has predicted that this week will be the “hottest week of the year,” with temperatures ranging from 40 to 42°C from Tuesday to Thursday.

As Karachi prepares for this intense heat, residents are advised to stay indoors and stay hydrated to prevent heatstroke.

The extreme temperatures are likely to exacerbate power supply issues, resulting in extended load shedding in some areas.

This heatwave highlights Pakistan’s vulnerability to extreme weather events, which scientists link to climate change. The current heat spell, which has gripped the city for the past few weeks, is expected to continue until the first week of June.

The combination of soaring temperatures and humidity poses significant health risks, making it crucial for residents to take precautions.

As Karachi navigates this challenging period, the city’s resilience and preparedness will be put to the test.
