Markets in Karachi and Lahore will remain open despite the government’s announcement of a public holiday on May 28, ‘Youm-e-Takbeer’.

Anjuman-e-Tajraan Karachi stated that all business and trade centers in the city will be operational on May 28, citing economic challenges and unemployment as reasons for not observing the holiday.

Similarly, Anjuman-e-Tajraan Lahore announced that shops and other businesses will remain open, celebrating ‘Youm-e-Takbeer’ with national enthusiasm.

Javed Shams, President of Anjuman-e-Tajraan Karachi, emphasized the significance of May 28 for Pakistan’s defense. He added that the general public, already burdened by poverty, unemployment, and inflation, cannot afford a holiday, despite the historical importance of the date.

He pointed out that traders and businessmen are unable to close their enterprises due to the current economic conditions and joblessness.

Additionally, Rizwan Irfan, President of Karachi Electronic Dealers Association, confirmed that all electronic markets in the city will be open on May 28. He noted that this day marks Pakistan’s emergence as an invincible nation on the global stage.

Earlier, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif declared a public holiday on May 28 to commemorate Youm-e-Takbeer, the day when Pakistan’s defense became impregnable following nuclear tests in Chagai, Balochistan.

In a statement from the PM House, the prime minister highlighted May 28, 1998, as a pivotal moment for Pakistan’s defense capabilities. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring the nation’s economic security and prosperity.

The nuclear tests were conducted in response to India’s nuclear activities, making Pakistan the first Muslim-majority country and the seventh globally to achieve nuclear power status.
