KARACHI: Sindh Assembly on Monday adopted a resolution to express condolence over the sad demise of Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi, who was killed in a helicopter crash in Azerbaijan province on Sunday.

The resolution was presented by Sindh Home Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar, expressing hearted-felt sorrow over the deaths of Iranian president, foreign minister and other officials.

The resolution noted that there are long-standing Islamic and cultural ties between the two countries, saying that Iran was the first country in the world to recognise Pakistan at the international level.

The minister said that Pakistan and her public express their full solidarity with Iran and Iranian people and stand by them at the time of grief and sorrow.

A minute’s silence on the martyrdom of the Iranian president in the assembly session was observed.

MQM-Pakistan also condoled the sad deaths of Iranian president and others and said it is with the Iranian people in this hour of sorrow.

The role of the Iranian president in terms of peace and order in the region will be written in golden letters, it maintained.

Today’s agenda of Sindh Assembly session postponed till Wednesday. The assembly’s proceedings were postponed due to the death of the Iranian president.
