Solar Panel Prices Decreased in Pakistan’s 2024-25 Budget

In an innovative step towards sustainable energy solutions, the Sindh government has collaborated with the World Bank to provide complete solar systems at the remarkably low price of Rs7,000. This initiative aims to transform access to electricity for households across the province, focusing especially on rural and underserved areas.

These affordably priced solar systems, made possible through the World Bank partnership, are designed to power essential household appliances like a fan and three LED bulbs. This not only ensures basic lighting but also improves ventilation, addressing crucial household needs.

The initiative is extensive, with plans to distribute 200,000 solar systems throughout Sindh, including a substantial allocation of 50,000 systems for Karachi. This highlights the government’s dedication to bridging the energy gap and promoting sustainable practices.

The project is scheduled to launch in October, with plans to equip each district with 6,656 solar systems. The comprehensive package includes solar panels, charge controllers, and batteries, ensuring households have all necessary components for reliable electricity generation.

World Bank funding of $32 million has enabled this ambitious project. Additionally, the potential for future expansion suggests a continued effort towards developing sustainable energy infrastructure in Sindh.

This announcement aligns with similar initiatives across Pakistan, such as the Punjab government’s plans to provide free solar systems to 50,000 households in their province. These coordinated efforts indicate a national push towards adopting renewable energy sources and reducing dependence on traditional power grids.

In summary, offering solar panel systems at just Rs7,000 in Sindh represents a significant milestone in the pursuit of affordable and eco-friendly electricity solutions, promising a brighter and more sustainable future for communities across the region.
