Karachi, Hyderabad, and various regions in Sindh are set to experience sporadic rains, with some areas facing heavy downpours and others very heavy showers, that started on Friday night and will continue through the weekend.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) reports that potent monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal are making their way into the southern and central parts of Pakistan, expected to reach the upper regions by Friday evening or night. Additionally, a westerly disturbance is forecasted to impact the northern areas starting tonight.
Given these meteorological conditions, cities including Mithi, Sanghar, Umer Kot, Tharparker, Mirpur Khas, Khairpur, Mityari, Nausheroferoze, Jamshoro, Thatta, Badin, Chhor, Padidan, Sajawal, Karachi, Hyderabad, Tando Allahyar, Tando Muhammad Khan, Shaheed Benazirabad, Sukkur, Larkana, Jacobabad, and Dadu are predicted to face intermittent rains, with heavy and very heavy falls in isolated spots, from Friday night through Sunday.
The forecasted heavy rainfall could lead to urban flooding in Karachi and inundation in the lower-lying areas of Sindh over the weekend.
Temperature forecasts for Karachi suggest a high ranging from 28-31°C on Saturday and 30-32°C on Sunday. Hyderabad is expected to see highs between 34-36°C on both days.
In the past 24 hours, Karachi and Lower Sindh have already experienced rainfall, while the rest of the province has been hot and humid.
Recorded rainfall (mm) includes: Karachi (Kemari 27, DHA 19, MOS 14, Masroor Base, Quaid Abad 11, Orangi Mimar 10, Jinnah Terminal 08, University Road 07, Faisal Base, Sarjani 06, Gadap, Gulshan Hadid 05, Korangi, Hassan Square 02, Nazimabad, Sadar 01), Hyderabad 05, Jacobabad 03, Thatta 01.
Dadu has been the warmest location in the province, with a peak temperature of 44°C. Nawabshah followed at 43°C, and Mohenjo-Daro at 42°C.
Karachi’s maximum temperature hit 32°C, with evening relative humidity at 82%. Hyderabad saw a high of 37°C, with evening humidity at 78%.
