Maryam presents Rs100m cheque, car to Olympic gold medalist Arshad Nadeem

MIAN CHIANNU: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Tuesday honored Olympic gold medalist Arshad Nadeem with a Rs100 million cheque and a car as a gift for his historic achievement in Olympics 20234.

Nadeem secured the gold medal in the javelin throw event at the Paris Olympics with a record-breaking distance of 92.97 meters, surpassing India’s Neeraj Chopra.

Maryam Nawaz traveled to Arshad Nadeem’s hometown of Mian Channu by helicopter to personally congratulate the javelin champion. The Punjab chief minister commended Arshad Nadeem for his remarkable achievement and presented him with the cheque and a car with a special number plate. Additionally, she pledged to improve the infrastructure in Nadeem’s village, including constructing roads, building a hospital, and establishing a university in Mian Channu.

Arshad Nadeem has remained in the spotlight since winning the gold medal, which has not only earned him widespread recognition but also significant financial rewards.

The javelin thrower, who set a world record at the Paris Olympics, received a hero’s welcome upon his return to Pakistan.

His arrival at Allama Iqbal International Airport in Lahore was marked by a traditional water cannon salute.
