ISLAMABAD: An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Tuesday granted physical remand for Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) MNAs Sher Afzal Marwat, Zain Qureshi, and several others in a case involving the alleged breach of public gathering laws.
According to reports, the police brought Sher Afzal Marwat, Zain Qureshi, and other accused before the ATC judge. The investigation officer requested their custody, stating it was necessary for further interrogation. The court approved the request and remanded the accused into police custody for eight days.
Sher Afzal Marwat and Zain Qureshi were among the PTI members arrested by Islamabad police from the Parliament.
Earlier on Monday night, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan and other leaders including Sher Afzal Marwat, Shoaib Shaheen and Zubair Khan were arrested from Parliament House by the police for violating the newly passed law “Peaceful Assembly and Public Order Bill 2024” during the PTI public rally in Islamabad on September 8
Earlier on the day, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan has been released.
The police said that Barrister Gohar had been discharged from Sangjani.
The Barrister said that the September 9, 2024 would be blackest day of democracy in Pakistan, adding that the PTI would not forget the day.
He lamented that 10 MNAs of the PTI had been arrested by the masked people from the parliament on Monday night.
The Barrister said that the police personnel had been deployed at the gate of National Assembly, adding he himself surrendered before the police.
The police had detained him and Sher Afzal Marwat from the NA gate.
He expressed hope that the NA speaker would take the notice and initiate an action against the responsible.
