In a significant achievement, the National University of Sciences & Technology (Nust) in Pakistan has placed 43 researchers among the world’s top 2% of scientists, according to a 2024 report by Stanford University and Elsevier.
This recognition highlights Nust’s growing international reputation for research contributions across fields such as artificial intelligence, engineering, and cybersecurity.
The prestigious ranking places Nust researchers among the 100,000 top scientists worldwide, reflecting the university’s steady rise in global research standings.
Currently ranked 353rd globally and 64th in Asia by the QS University Rankings, Nust has established itself as a leading institution in Pakistan’s higher education sector.
This achievement reflects a positive trend: Nust’s representation among the world’s top 2% of scientists has steadily increased, with 9 researchers making the list in 2021, 23 in 2022, and 31 in 2023.
Stanford University compiles the data for the ranking and publishes it through Elsevier, using a composite index that considers various bibliometric factors.
These factors include citation counts, the Hirsch index (which measures an individual scientist’s productivity and impact), and citations across various authorship positions.
The 43 scientists from Nust who achieved this rank represent a diverse array of fields.
Their expertise spans disciplines such as artificial intelligence, materials science, biomedical research, mechanical and civil engineering, nanotechnology, physics, cybersecurity, computer science, humanities, mathematics, and fluid mechanics.
Notably, 23 of these scientists have consistently appeared in the top 2% category over the years.
This recognition highlights how NUST fosters a supportive environment for research, enabling its faculty to make significant contributions across diverse and evolving scientific fields.
