Two more polio cases reported in Pakistan
Pakistan has reported three additional polio cases, raising the total number of cases to 55 this year.
The National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC) confirmed that the new cases were detected in Dera Ismail Khan, Zhob, and Jaffarabad. Two girls from Dera Ismail Khan and Zhob, along with a boy from Jaffarabad, were diagnosed with polio. This marks the sixth case from southern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa this year.
In Balochistan, two more cases were reported, bringing the province’s total to 26 cases in 2024. These cases were identified in Zhob and Jaffarabad.
The rise in polio cases has raised alarm among international organizations. Reports indicate that these organizations have urged Pakistan to take immediate action. In response, Pakistan has assured the international community that it will implement urgent measures to curb the spread of polio.
Additionally, representatives from these organizations are expected to visit Pakistan later this month to assist in the efforts to combat the virus.
