Ishaq Dar claims terrorism can’t break Pakistan’s resolve for peace
ISLAMABAD: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar on Wednesday reaffirmed Pakistan’s firm commitment to dialogue, diplomacy, and multilateral cooperation as the basis for global peace, stability, and progress.
Speaking at the second day of the three-day Inter-Parliamentary Speakers’ Conference (ISC), Dar said that the participation of parliamentarians and delegates from around the world showed a shared belief that cooperation among nations is the surest way to achieve peace and development.
He noted that the conference organized by the Senate of Pakistan under the leadership of the Chairman Senate and the ISC Founding Chairman Senator Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani marks another step in Pakistan’s ongoing efforts to promote peace and security through multilateral engagement.
Talking about global challenges, the Deputy Prime Minister said the world is undergoing major changes marked by declining trust in international institutions, growing rivalries, climate change, terrorism, and widening inequalities.
“At such a critical time, platforms like this hold great importance,” he said. “We must not only protect multilateralism but also revive it through openness, inclusion, and active participation of people’s representatives.”
Condemning the recent terrorist attacks in Wana and Islamabad that claimed 15 lives, Dar said Pakistan firmly rejects terrorism in all its forms. “These cowardly attacks will never weaken our national resolve to eliminate this threat,” he declared, adding that dialogue, understanding, and partnership remain the only sustainable way to achieve peace and security.
Dar said Pakistan’s foreign policy is based on the UN Charter’s core principles of sovereign equality, peaceful resolution of disputes, non-interference, and friendly relations among nations.
He also highlighted Pakistan’s leadership at the United Nations, further recalling that during its presidency of the UN Security Council in July 2025, Pakistan not only hosted an open debate on promoting peace through multilateralism but also played an active role in fostering dialogue among member states. Moreover, the session led to the unanimous adoption of a Pakistan-sponsored resolution aimed at strengthening global mechanisms for the peaceful settlement of disputes.
