Karachi: Widespread electricity failures caused by K-Electric’s negligence and poor management have crippled Karachi’s water supply system, leading to an acute artificial water shortage across the city.

Frequent power breakdowns at major pumping stations and filtration plants have left millions of residents struggling for even a drop of water.

A major power outage occurred at the K-III pumping station around 2 a.m. on Thursday night, which took nearly 24 hours to restore. During this period, water supply remained completely suspended in several key areas, including New Karachi, North Nazimabad, Scheme 33, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, and Gulberg.

According to Water Corporation sources, the breakdown at the K-III station resulted in a shortfall of approximately 95 million gallons of water.

Similarly, during the month of October alone, the K-II filtration plant experienced four major power failures, drastically reducing the city’s overall water supply.

Sources further revealed that due to K-Electric’s faulty infrastructure and poor administrative control, repeated outages at Dhabeji, Pipri, K-II, and other key reservoirs have thrown Karachi’s entire water distribution system into disarray.
