KARACHI: Religious scholar Maulana Abdul Qayoom Sufi has been shot dead by unidentified persons in the Gulistan-e-Johar area of Karachi.

According to the police, Maulana Sufi Abdul Qayoom was on his way home after offering Fajr prayers at the Naqshbandi Masjid when he was surrounded by motorcycle-borne assailants in Block 9 of Gulistan Johar.

The police disclosed that the assailants shot the cleric in the head outside his house, killing him on the spot.

The police have started an investigation to arrest the accused, while Maulana Abdul Qayoom Sufi’s body has been shifted to the hospital for post-mortem.

Protesting against the murder of the religious scholar, people blocked the roads of the area.

Maulana Abdul Qayoom Sufi, was a member of the Pakistan Ulema Association and also head of the Noorani Islamic Centre at Jamia Masjid Muhammadia.
