ISLAMABAD: The Judicial Commission of Pakistan has approved the appointment of Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb as a permanent judge of the Supreme Court.
According to insiders, the commission’s meeting was chaired by Chief Justice Yahya Afridi, during which the members endorsed Justice Aurangzeb’s elevation after he served for one year as a special judge of the apex court.
However, one member of the commission, Justice Munib Akhtar, opposed his permanent appointment, sources added.
During the meeting, the commission also approved the confirmation of Acting Chief Justice of the Sindh High Court, Justice Zafar Ahmed Rajput, as its permanent Chief Justice.
Similarly, Justice Muhammad Kamran Mulakhail was unanimously recommended for appointment as the permanent Chief Justice of the Balochistan High Court.
