A Pakistan Air Force (PAF) Group Captain was shot dead in Islamabad after he intervened in an alleged abduction attempt involving a woman, police said on Sunday.
According to Islamabad police, the incident occurred on Ninth Avenue when Group Captain Asim, while passing through the area, noticed a motorcyclist allegedly forcing a woman to accompany him. The officer stopped his vehicle and stepped in to assist her.
Police said that during the confrontation, the woman ran toward the other side of the officer’s vehicle. The suspect, identified as Saad, allegedly engaged in a heated argument with Group Captain Asim before opening fire.
The officer sustained critical injuries and died at the scene. The suspect fled immediately after the shooting.
Police confirmed that a criminal case has been registered and investigations are ongoing. Authorities also said that raids are being conducted at multiple locations to arrest the suspect, who remains at large.
The woman’s statement has been recorded by police. According to her account, the suspect was known to her and worked at the same office. She alleged that he initially offered to drop her at work but later changed the route during the journey and attempted to take her to another location against her will. She further stated that when she resisted, he tried to force her, prompting the intervention of Group Captain Asim.
Group Captain Asim, a serving officer of the Pakistan Air Force, is survived by his wife, a daughter, and a son. His death has sparked widespread grief and tributes on social media, with many users praising his courage and quick response.
Law enforcement officials said efforts are continuing to trace and arrest the suspect, who will be presented before the court once apprehended.
