According to a couple of Indian news outlets, the news went viral on social media that the Kanpur police had ‘arrested’ a goat because it was not wearing a mask.
The incident occurred in the city’s Beconganj area where police noticed the animal wandering aimlessly around. The cops decided to take it to the police station along with them. The owner was called there and he came to ask them to set the animal-free. It was released later on.
The news spread out on social media like wildfire and became one of the jokes of the day as such things did not happen in daily routine.
However, the news was not correct, as the police officers did not arrest the goat because it was not wearing the mask, but they took it along with them due to the fact that Eid ul Adha is around the corner.
The police had then agreed to take the goat with them to the station where they approached the owner and asked him to take the animal away.
