Samaa TV has been involved in certain misconducts yet again. The media house has been recommended for a Rs1 million fine by PEMRA. The related incident revolves around the re-enactment story of a crime, with an indecent text being sent from a boy to a girl during the show.
This incident is a clear violation of PEMRA Code of Conduct and broadcasting rules and regulations in the country. In addition, such inappropriate content is against social norms and customs in Pakistan
The case was forwarded to the Council of Complaints following silence from Samaa TV authorities. After a thorough review of all relevant material, including footage of the program itself, the council recommended the imposition of a Rs1 million fine on Samaa TV, while also recommending suspension of Samaa TV’s broadcast license in case of any future breaches of such nature.
In order to ensure that all content on media platforms is regulated and supervised, PEMRA and others must continue playing an effective role and set precedents through strict action in case of any violations. Broadcasters and media houses must ensure that only appropriate material is published on all platforms, and must take full responsibility in the event of such incidents.
