It’s utterly disappointing to witness the state of our nation when those working for our own betterment are showcased as the perpetrators and culprits. The media is supposed to support the institutions working for our future rather than ridicule them. Media channels are birthed to portray the honest truth and promote those that are working for our good.
In a defamation case against Samaa TV, it is reported that they shared false and baseless content in an attempt to diminish the legitimacy of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB). NAB approached Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) with a complaint against Samaa TV regarding such misappropriated allegations made against its institution. PEMRA Council of Complaints has directed Samaa TV to air an apology to NAB immediately for airing such unjustified and inappropriate reports.
In another instance, Samaa TV repeated its mistake and aired false and defamatory claims against the NAB chairman in an attempt to corrode the reputability of NAB. Yet again, Samaa was made to air an instant apology against the revenue savior of our country. This is the state of affairs of one of our country’s most prominent news networks. If the media isn’t backing institutions such as NAB which are working for the interests of the public, then who will?
