Yellow Journalism, the use of lurid features and sensationalized news has become an integral part of journalism in the Pakistani media industry. These operate in an ethics free zone, crossing the line between fact and fiction to which the possible consequences may be serious.
Using religion for yellow journalism is a pathetic way that news outlets like Samaa have resorted to in the past, setting some unethical boundaries for others to follow. Such are gutter tactics to attract the attention of readers and increase circulation. Such news channels should realize the importance of having a healthy profession and be reminded of their social responsibility. Samaa TV should be discouraged from practicing sensational journalism and exaggerated news. Media is perceived as the 4th pillar of the state and adoption of reporting practices focusing more on yellow journalism than research can exploit the media’s influential positions and make it harder for others to do their job properly.
In order to capture the audience’s interest the channel has many a time gone as far as attacking on people’s religion. This act is highly practiced by the news channel. We should discourage such yellow journalism in order to achieve a prosperous and free media in Pakistan.
