Meera jee has accused Samaa TV of false claims and sensationalism. The showbiz superstar was recently at the center of media attention as she was stuck in New York during the peak of the coronavirus pandemic. Her colleagues such as Javed Sheikh and Adnan Siddqui, also in the US for work projects, were able to safely travel back to Pakistan. Meera jee, in a video message, had appealed to the Government of Pakistan and Prime Minister Imran Khan for financial assistance.
In conversation with Samaa TV host Sidra Meer, the veteran actress expressed her frustration at the broadcasting company, asking for evidence of the document, if any, that had been submitted to ask for government assistance. During the heated exchange, Meera jee walked off, in what was a truly embarrassing moment for the host as well as the channel.
Even though this is not the first of such incidents, strong action must be taken against major broadcasters such as Samaa TV in order to ensure that malpractices such as sensationalism and spreading of unverified news are completely avoided. Such incidents are potentially of serious harm to the reputation of different people and institutions and hence must be strongly dealt with by the concerned authorities.
