Pakistani Court’s Verdict: NAVEID SIDDIQUI’s SAMAA Involved In Sexual Harassment

A radio broadcaster based in Islamabad, Tehreem Muneeba was harassed while working in Samaa FM in 2018. She had quit her job after she was harassed by her colleagues.

After battling with the harassers for 2 years, and winning the case, Tehreem revealed that Prime Minister Imran Khan’s Focal Person on Information Analytics Fahd Haroon had protected her harassers.

According to details, Tehreem had file a case in 2018 against her studio staffers for harassing her.

On May 22, 2020, her colleagues at Samaa FM, who got shelter from Fahd Haroon were finally found guilty. Each of seven staff members, who harassed her were fine of Rs100, 000.

The Chief Operating Officer Fahd Haroon never took notice against the harassers and never paid attention on Tehreem’s complaint. When the accused made another sexual advances on 21st August, 2018, Fahd became the devil’s advocate and preferred to protect the harassers instead of taking action against them.

The irony is that, presently Fahd is working as PM Imran Khan’s focal person on information analytics since March 2020, and also became the member of the Pakistan Broadcasting Board (PBC).

In Tehreems favor, the court just not only penalized the harassers under section 4 (4) (ii)(e) of Protection against Harassment of Women at Workplace the Act, 2010 but also ordered them to pay fine of Rs100,000 each as compensation to the complainant within 30 days of passing of this order through the office of this forum without fail.

To protect the harassers, the Samaa’s management filed a defamation suit worth Rs 500 million against Tehreem after she leveled allegations of sexual harassment.

Tehreem also revealed that Samaa FM management had deleted the CCTV footages, which were the only evidence of what happened in the FM studio instead of taking action against the harassers.
