Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa has congratulated boxer Muhammad Waseem who defeated Philippines’ Conrado Tanamor in the first round of their fight in Dubai.

Gen Bajwa met the boxer at his office and congratulated him for the recent achievement bringing honor for the country.

Commending his performance, the army chief said: “Talent like you is our pride, we are here to support youngsters like you having potential and positive energy.”

The star boxer returned after winning in spectacular style on Friday by knocking out his Filipino opponent within 82 seconds of the opening round.

Waseem’s win went unnoticed as he was ignored upon arrival at the airport.

No official was present when he returned to country.

Bowling legend Wasim Akram issued a public apology on behalf of Pakistan to the boxer. He reminded the nation how we should remember our heroes.

“I want to thank all of you and the whole nation,” Muhammad Waseem said.

“Pakistan Army has been supporting me for a while now, whenever I return after winning a fight, they receive me and appreciate me”, he said.

He further said that it is a matter of pride for me that he has been a champion in the past and has been representing Pakistan for many years.

“Wasim Akram, Shahid Afridi, Shoaib Malik and Shoaib Akhtar appreciated me, I felt really good, it is an honor for me the way legends are appreciating me and I am getting motivated to win even bigger titles for Pakistan in future,” he added.

The former top-ranked WBC boxer had dedicated his big win to the people of Kashmir and still condemning the brutalities of Indian forces in the valley.

Muhammad Waseem will fight his next bout on November 22.
