Sania Mirza made a memorable comeback after two years of gap. She won doubles title and became a proud receiver of WTA Hobart International trophy. Mirza along with her partner, Nadiia Kichenok knocked out Shaui Peng and Shaui Zhang in the final match, today on Saturday.
The Indo-Ukrainian gave a tough time to the Chinese team and put them under pressure with a 6-4, 6-4 ratio. They finished the opposite pair in one hour 21 minutes.
Sania and Nadiia won USD 13,580 as prize money. Today’s win will boost their ranking points as the duo has earned 280 points after the win.
Winning double’s title was not easy for the Indo-Ukraine pair. The Chinese duo tried their best and fought back the entire time. It was 4-4 in the eighth game. Sania and Nadiia got the match in the ninth game and won the title in the tenth game.
It was the first tournament for Sania Mirza after the birth of her baby boy. Her performance remained impressive in the Olympic year. The well-known Indian tennis star warmed up for the Australian Open.
This doubles title is her 42nd WTA title. The dynamic tennis player has won Brisbane International trophy with Bethanie Mattek-Sands, her American partner in 2007.
However, Mirza took off from the entire seasons of 2018 and 2019 as she wanted to excel in her personal life too. The sole reason for taking a break was to start a family with, Shoaib Malik, former Pakistani cricketer.
