Sri Lanka will play first Test against England in Galle without Kusal Perera due to a finger injury.

As per details, the 29-year-old took a blow to the middle digit of his right hand during the second T 20 international against West Indies last week.

After missing the first Test starting on March 19, Perera could return in time for the conclusion to the series in Colombo which begins on March 27.

“Kusal’s finger is a minor bone disorder,” said Sri Lanka team manager Asantha de Mel. “It didn’t hurt the bone.”

Despite producing a Test innings for the ages in South Africa last year, Perera has not played in the longest format since August’s visit of New Zealand having skipped the Zimbabwe matches.

Meanwhile, Wanindu Hasaranga, who was in line to earn a call-up to the squad for the series due to his white-ball performances is expected to be sidelined for both Tests due to a hamstring issue suffered in the same game.

Wanindu Hasaranga, Kusal Perera to miss cricket for weeks due to injuries.

“The disability of Wanidu’s thigh is quite big,” added De Mel. “As a result, the doctors have advised him to rest for six weeks.”

Sri Lanka lost T 20 Series (2-0) against West Indies and will play against England in the next test match series.

The series will be played in Galle, Sri Lanka.

The first test will be played at Galle International Stadium from March 19 onwards.
