UFC president Dana White has revealed that Muslim Russian Mixed Martial Artist Khabib Nurmagomedov will face Justin Gaethje in June.
Justin Gaethje defeated Tony Ferguson at UFC 249 last weekend to take the interim title.
In an interview Dana White said “Fight Island” — a secret location off the coast of the United States — remains under construction will be the venue of the fight. However, should be ready for the pair to lock horns by the end of June.
He said “I don’t know if it will be the first one, but it will be on ‘Fight Island,’ unless miraculously the world comes back together faster than I think it’s gonna.” White added: “Hopefully [‘Fight Island’] will be done by mid-June, and I could put on a fight that weekend that it’s done, or end of June.”
Earlier Khabib Abdulmanapovich Nurmagomedov offered very little in response to Justin Gaethje who beat Tony Ferguson in UFC match.
Media reports said that martial artist Khabib Abdulmanapovich Nurmagomedov wasted little time and took to twitter mere after the second final bell and made simple but sly tweets.
The main event of UFC 249 was supposed to be Khabib vs Ferguson on April 18, but due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, that scheduled fight was cancelled. The Eagle was stuck in his homeland of Russia and he made it very clear to Dana White that he wouldn’t be travelling in order to fight Ferguson. The show must go on, though, as UFC president White said, and he found a replacement for Khabib in Gaethje. But, during fight week it was announced that the event had to be postponed due to the coronavirus.
