Famed Manchester United footballer Paul Pogba has refused to represent France over French President Emmanuel Macron’s anti-Islam remarks.
According to media reports, Paul Pogba announces his retirement from French football after Macron’s controversial remarks again Islam.
The dramatic turn of events come after the beheading of a school teacher Samuel Paty, which the French President described as an ‘Islamic terrorist attack’.
However, the French Football Federation (FFF) and the star footballer himself still not commented over the tense situation.
Macron’s comments have also sparked an international diplomatic incident, with Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan accusing his counterpart of ‘needing mental treatment’ for pledging to fight Islamic radicalism.
France has recalled its ambassador to Turkey for consultations after Erdogan’s insult.
French President Emmanuel Macron is being criticized after he vowed not to give up on blasphemous caricatures.
Moreover, his comments came in response to the beheading of a teacher, Samuel Paty, a 47-year-old teacher, who was attacked on his way home from the junior high school where he taught in Conflans-Sainte-Honorine.
According to reports, the teacher had shown cartoons disrespecting the Holy Prophet Mohammad (P.B.U.H).
Prime Minister Imran Khan has also condemned Macron, saying that the French president “attacked Islam” by encouraging the display of the blasphemous caricatures.
He said Macron should have shown a “healing touch” to deny space to extremists but had instead “chosen to encourage Islamophobia by attacking Islam rather than the terrorists who carry out violence, be it Muslims, White Supremacists or Nazi ideologists”.
