Roger Federer, the Swiss tennis star, has announced that he will miss the upcoming US Open to undergo another knee surgery.
The 20-time Grand Slam winner missed the whole of 2020 because of the knee injury and just recently returned to professional tennis.
In an Instagram post on Sunday, Federer announced that he will be out of action for ‘many months’.
Federer has just played 13 matches in 2021 and withdrew from this year’s French Open after defeating Germany’s Dominik Koepfer, 7-6 (5), 6-7 (3), 7-6 (4), 7-5 in the third round.
The Swiss was knocked out in the quarter-finals of Wimbledon after suffering a defeat against Poland’s Hubert Hurkacz with the score 6-3, 7-6 (7/4) and 6-0.
It was the first time when Federer lost a set 6-0 at Wimbledon and only the third time at a Grand Slam.
