Hardik Pandya, Gujarat Titans’ (GT) captain, has been ruled out of the match against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the MCA Stadium in Pune on Sunday, April 17.

The 28-year-old all-rounder was forced to withdraw owing to “groin discomfort.” In Hardik’s absence, the Titans will be led by Rashid Khan, who was named vice-captain.

For the game against Ravindra Jadeja’s Super Kings, the Titans have added veteran wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha and West Indies fast bowler Alzarri Joseph.

Matthew Wade, who was struggling at the plate, was unable to find a spot in the Titans’ starting lineup.

“We’d want to start with the bowling. Hardik had some groin discomfort, so as a team, we didn’t want to take any chances. He’ll take a break and return for the next game, hopefully”.

“I’m ecstatic; it’s like a dream. So all I want to do is study as much as I can and offer my all. Matthew Wade has been replaced by Saha”.

“It’s just to even things out because Hardik isn’t here,” Rashid said during the toss.

In the latest edition of the T20 competition, Hardik has arguably been the Titans’ standout performer.

With 228 runs from five matches at an average of 76 and a strike rate of 136.52, he is their highest run-scorer.

Pandya’s highest score of 87* came against the Rajasthan Royals on April 14. (RR).

Pandya has also taken six wickets at an economy rate of 7.56 in the event.

After a poor campaign in the 2021 T20 World Cup, the all-rounder didn’t have the greatest of times, but he’s been in the ominous form of late.
