MS Dhoni’s last over smashing helped Chennai Super Kings (CSK) beat Mumbai Indians (MI) by three wickets in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022.

MI scored a total of 155 runs in 20 overs while batting first. Tilak Varma’s 55-run knock was the highlight of the first inning.

However, CSK’s Mukesh Choudhary was awarded the man of the match title after his 3-19 in four overs.

MI restricted CSK till the last over with 17 runs still remaining.

Dhoni played a miraculous and finishing knock to lead the team to their second victory in seven matches.

On the third ball of the over, Dhoni got the strike and sent it over the fence for a six. With 10 runs required off three balls, Dhoni blasted the fourth ball to the boundary and took two runs on the next ball.

With four required off the final delivery, Dhoni displayed his brilliance by playing a short to fine-leg to win the game for CSK.

MI had put CSK under early pressure, thus it was a see-saw chase.

The chasing team was reduced to 16-2 thanks to Daniel Sams’ two wickets.

Robin Uthappa (30) had a strong game and led the inning with a 40-run outburst. Shivam Dube (13) was sent back by Sams 22 runs after Robin’s dismissal.

MI had been performing well while defending the total until the last over, when 17 runs were required.

All of the pressure was on Dhoni to bowl spectacular and decisive innings against left-arm bowler Jaydev Unadkat.

CSK’s run chase was hampered when the in-form Ambati Rayudu (40) was forced to return to the pavilion after Sams took yet another vital wicket in a magnificent effort.
