Australia’s Ash Barty, former world number one, surprisingly announced her retirement from professional tennis at the age of just 25.
She has now put everyone to thought about her adopting another sport – golf.
Sky Sports reported that Barty will now focus on golf by signing up for a number of tournaments. They will also feature 23 other celebrities from the world of sport.
She will play for the rest of the world team, captained by Ernie Els, against a US team led by Fred Couples, another major winner.
It’s such a unique opportunity to have fun, test yourself and compete,” she told the Sydney Morning Herald.
“I hope through my participation in the series that we can encourage more women and girls to participate in golf around the world,” she added.
Apart from being a world-class tennis player, Barty has also managed to play domestic cricket for Queensland and the Brisbane Heat in the Women’s Big Bash League.
