Liverpool hammered Manchester United, on Tuesday, scoring four goals against their Premier League rivals.
The victory kept Liverpool’s title hopes alive, as the Merseyside club moved to the top of the league table with 76 points after 32 games.
Manchester City is just behind them with 74 points from 31 games played.
When questioned about his interpretation of the game, Liverpool’s star winger Mohamed Salah, who scored two goals past Manchester United’s David de Gea, remarked that the away side’s style of play made life simple for the Liverpool players.
“They make our lives simpler in the midfield and at the defense because they always try to give us the ball in a one-on-one scenario,” the 29-year-old explained.
Salah emphasized that United made their life easy on the night when the Red Devils only had two shots at goal compared to the home side’s 14.
“We had a clean sheet here and a clean sheet there when we were defending, so they make our lives simpler.”
He went on to say that United’s inability to keep possession of the ball for lengthy periods of time under pressure allowed Liverpool to attack more and that after they scored the first goal, they could think about scoring more.
“All we want to do is score one goal and then go for the second, and then the third.”
“We put forth a strong showing both at home and abroad. Hopefully, things will continue to go well,” Salah concluded his analysis.
With the exception of Salah, Sadio Mane, and Luis Diaz, Spanish midfielder Thiago Alcantara had an outstanding game for Liverpool, managing the tempo and manning the middle.
For him, this was one of the team’s best performances at Anfield, as they oozed excellence for the entire 90 minutes.
“I believe this was one of the team’s best performances at Anfield. The first one, as well as the second, were excellent. Throughout the 90 minutes, we were at a high level”, he remarked.
Manchester United dropped to sixth place in the Premier League table, behind Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspurs, and Arsenal.
