Monte Carlo Masters: Cameron Norrie and Dan Evans lose in second round

In the second round of the Monte Carlo Masters, British number one Cameron Norrie was defeated by Albert Ramos-Vinolas.

Norrie forced a tiebreaker before Ramos-Vinolas of Spain, who was hampered by an abdominal injury, won 6-4 2-6 6-4.

Ramos-Vinolas, the world number 37, has won all four of his clay encounters against Norrie, the world number ten.

Dan Evans, a compatriot, was defeated 7-6 (7-3) 6-2 by Belgian David Goffin in the second round.

Evans, the British number two, who reached the event’s semi-finals last year, cut a disgruntled figure in the last portions of his match.

He saved seven of ten breakpoints, but he couldn’t break Goffin’s serve.

With a 6-1 7-5 victory over Federico Delbonis, world number three Alexander Zverev, the highest-ranked player remaining in the event and seeded second, advanced to the last 16 of the tournament.

In a match that lasted just over three hours, Miami Open champion Carlos Alcaraz was defeated by Sebastian Korda.

The American defeated Spain’s Alcaraz 7-6 (7-2) 6-7 (5-7) 6-3, a player widely regarded as one of the sport’s future stars.

In the deciding set, Alcaraz led by a break, but the 21-year-old Korda came back, winning three games in a row to seal the triumph.

Lorenzo Musetti of Italy defeated Canadian world number nine Felix-Auger Aliassime 6-2 7-6 (7-2).

Meanwhile, the knockout stages of the Davis Cup Finals will be held in Malaga for the next two years.

The International Tennis Federation and its tournament partner Kosmos had hoped to hold the events in Abu Dhabi but were unable to reach an agreement.

The group stages will be held in four cities, including Glasgow, in September, with the Finals taking place in Malaga at the end of November.
