An outstanding 84-run knock by Keshav Maharaj, and bowlers Duanne Olivier (2) and Wiaan Mulder’s (3) brilliant performance helped South Africa dominate Day 2 of the final Test match against Bangladesh at St. George’s Park.

The Tigers ended the day with 139 runs for the loss of 5 wickets.

Proteas, after coming to the field kept the Bangladeshi batsmen under constant pressure with its pace attack with the new ball.

Young batter Mahmudul Hasan Joy was sent back to the pavilion by Oliver at zero with Tami Iqbal (47) and  Najmul Hossain Shanto (33) stood firm on the pitch with an 82-run stand.

However, not long after, Mulder sent back Tamim and skipper Mominul Haque (6). While Mushfiqur Rahim (30) faced the bowlers firmly as he remained unbeaten by the end of the day.

South Africa, after winning the toss and deciding to bat first, ended day one at 278-5. They lost Kyle Verreynne (22) in the early overs of day 2.

However, it was Keshav who displayed stellar performance with the bat, scoring 84 runs off just 95 balls including three sixes and nine fours. He shared an 80-run partnership with Mulder (30) before left-arm spinner Taijul Islam dismissed both batters.

Simon Harmer’s 29 helped the Proteas lift up the score to 453 before all wickets fell.

Islam took six wickets for 135 runs in 50 overs. Khaled Ahmed took three and Mehidy one.
