For the next ODI series against Zimbabwe, Afghanistan has dropped all-rounder Gulbadin Naib in favor of left-arm spinner Zia ur Rahman Akbar.

Since the start of 2021, Naib, who captained the team at the 2019 World Cup, has had a terrible run of form in the format, with the best score of 36 in seven innings.

In February and March, he took three wickets in two games for Afghanistan against Bangladesh. Zia, who took 14 wickets at an average of 12 in the domestic One-Day Cup, was his successor.

Meanwhile, top spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman will play in the ODIs but not the T20Is because of his obligations with Middlesex in the T20 Blast.

Qais Ahmed, who is also a member of the T20 Blast, was not considered for the team.
