When Shakur Stevenson’s mother got into a confrontation during his post-fight news conference, his world title win was almost overshadowed.

On Saturday night, Stevenson maintained his perfect record by defeating Oscar Valdez in the biggest win of his career.

Stevenson, 24, kept his perfect record intact by outpointing Valdez over 12 rounds and adding the WBC title to his collection.

While fielding questions at his press conference, the Olympic silver medalist was in excellent spirits until something drew his attention.

As a confrontation erupted outside the media room, Stevenson put down his world titles and exited the stage.

Two women are suspected of assaulting Stevenson’s mother, according to sources, which is why he hurried out of his interview to save her from the brawl.

Las Vegas security tried hard to bring the situation under control.

Security and police eventually confined Stevenson, his friends, and family to a room to de-escalate the situation while the crowd was gradually dispersed.

Stevenson’s unbeaten streak now stands at 18 fights, and he proposed to his longtime girlfriend Lyric after the match.

He stated that he wants to become undisputed at 130 pounds and hinted at a possible bout with WBC lightweight champion Devin Haney, who was present at the event.

“I promised you I was going to beat Valdez, Canelo, and Eddy Reynoso, and I meant it. That was my strategy: defeat the entire team, and I’m pleased with the results. No offence to them, but that was my strategy “he stated.

“Oscar Valdez is a tough champion, and I have no doubts about it. He’s rough and tough, with plenty of power, and he’ll be a champion after this.”

“In this sport, I’m a superstar, so line them up and name them; I’m ready for whomever. At 130 pounds, I might go collect all the belts and become unquestioned.”

In June, Haney will face unified lightweight champion George Kambosos Jr for the undisputed championships, but Stevenson is prepared to battle the unbeaten 23-year-old at 135 pounds for the first time in his professional career.

“Devin is a major battle for me because he’s a hell of a fighter,” he added. “I have nothing but admiration and affection for Devin, but we can work anything out in the future.”
