Royal Challengers Bangalore needed a characterful, spunky, and adventurous innings in the Eliminator against the Lucknow Super Giants at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata, and it came from Rajat Patidar’s blade.

To compensate for the failure of the big three, Faf du Plessis, Virat Kohli, and Glenn Maxwell, the RCB number three unleashed a burst of brilliantly attacking strokes.

Patidar came in to bat with his team in trouble, having lost its skipper in the first over.

Virat Kohli, on the other hand, continues to be an unrecognizable shell of his attacking self from the past; but, after what has been a weary season for the star, many have begun to recognize this new version of Kohli.

Patidar opted to break the shackles in the fifth over, launching himself at Krunal Pandya for three fours and a six to boost his team’s total to 50.

Despite the fact that batsmen like Kohli and Maxwell struggled at the other end, Patidar was able to get one boundary practically every over to keep his team in the game.

He smashed three sixes and two fours in his second ‘break out of jail’ over, the 16th of RCB’s innings.

Ravi Bishnoi would have taken his wicket had Deepak Hooda not dropped a straightforward catch at the boundary on the third delivery of the over, allowing Patidar to continue his rampage.

Patidar was dropped for the second time in the 18th over, this time by a challenging catch in the third man zone, but he made the most of it by hitting the following delivery for a tremendous six to achieve his century in just 49 balls.

Patidar has scored his first T20 century.

In partnership with Dinesh Karthik, he continued the onslaught to lead RCB to a big total of 207/4, something they had not done in their previous two IPL losses at this level.

Patidar scored an undefeated 112 from only 54 deliveries.
