Sri Lankan batsman Kusal Mendis was cleared of any significant issues following an ECG on Monday, and the team breathed a sigh of relief (May 23).

After complaining of chest trouble during the opening session (in the 23rd over) of the second Test against Bangladesh at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur, Mendis was rushed to a hospital for a proper diagnosis and better management.

“He had an ECG and the report showed no severe issues,” a Bangladesh Cricket Board official stated.

“He is presently under surveillance,” he said, “so hopefully he will report back to the hotel within a couple of hours.”

In the first drawn Test in Chattogram, Mendis scored 54 and 48 runs, respectively.

“Kusal is now undergoing several tests to ensure he is in good health,” said Sri Lankan head coach Chris Silverwood.

“The doctor will provide us with a report. The welfare of the player is our first and most essential priority. Hopefully, he’ll be fine and join us at the hotel tonight.”
