Bangladesh wicketkeeper-batsman Mushfiqur Rahim will miss the upcoming tour to West Indies, according to Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).

The right-hand batsman will likely travel to Saudi Arabia to perform Hajj as this year’s pilgrimage will be in July.

“He informed us before the Sri Lanka series that he wants to perform Hajj this year,” Jalal Yunus, BCB’s cricket operations chairman, said. “When he got confirmation, he gave us a letter that he wanted leave. We have granted him the time. We had an initial thought that he might be available for part of the tour but he is off for the whole tour.”

On June 5, Bangladesh is expected to fly to the West Indies. The two Tests against the West Indies will begin on June 16 at Antigua and St Lucia, according to ESPNcricinfo.

The T20Is will take place from July 2 to 6, while the ODIs will take place from July 10 to 16. The World Test Championship only includes Test matches; the ODIs are not included in the Super League.

In the Chattogram Test last week, Mushfiqur, Bangladesh’s most-capped Test cricketer, became the first from the side to surpass 5,000 runs in the format. As a result, Bangladesh will be without the batter who has played in their last three West Indies visits.

Four crucial bowlers have already been ruled out due to injuries. Taskin Ahmed is recovering from a shoulder injury, while Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Shoriful Islam, and Nayeem Hasan are all dealing with hand problems.

The Bangladesh selectors have yet to pick any of the three squads, but replacing at least these five cricketers is likely to be a challenge. Mushfiqur is now a middle-order batsman who only keeps wickets in white-ball cricket, but finding a successor in any of the three forms will be difficult.
